Refuge

This unique spot offers a great vibe, though it can be a bit tricky to locate due to its multifaceted nature. In the morning, it's a cozy coffee shop, and by night, it transforms into a lively bar. I visited during the day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The coffee was excellent, and they still served alcohol for those interested. The space was pleasantly uncrowded with beautiful sunlight streaming in. Highly recommended for a relaxing visit!

Met friends for cocktails on a Wednesday at 6:00 PM. Funky vibe with red lightning and booths and high tops. Nice sized crowd with great music and friendly staff. Decent menu of specialty drinks at $16 each. Limited wine selection. There are a few appetizers but food is not the main fare. Houston has limited options for a more upscale happy/cocktail hour option and this place is perfect. Limited parking is a downside.

Absolutely amazing! Julia made the best drinks and was such a wonderful bartender. She crafted my friend and I the yummiest drinks based off of our preferences. I highly recommend the green tea shot! Definitely best bar in Houston!!

Not sure why a Croissant that's not fresh, it was old and chewy and a served cold latte would cost $15. Common bond down the street has better quality for lower price. Same order for about $10. They remade my latte of course, but the quality vs price is super low. The atmosphere is very mediocre, decor is boring, music does not fit. I understand that it's a bar as well. However, it can be managed better. Staff are nice , the reason I gave 3 stars is for attention for detail. Lots of work needs to be done. Charging high prices is not going to make it up for your slow nights of liquor sales.

Who doesn’t love a warm towel offered upon arrival? Came without a reservation but was offered standing room option. Luckily a place at the bar opened up quickly, and I am glad it did, because we got to meet the best bar tender and mixologist in Houston. Julia. I have never met someone so good and so happy at their job. The cocktails were artfully done, balanced, and tasty. Shifting my favorite bar in Houston to Refuge!

Came here for pre-dinner drinks on a Friday night. We had a 6:30 reservation and after checking in with the very friendly hostess we were taken straight to our booth. The bar is up a flight of stairs on the back side of Anvil. The vibes are very moody/sexy with low lighting and table lamps. Service was great and I loved the presentation of our cocktails. I had a tequila neat and my husband went with Bobby's martini which was served with a side dish of olives. Great spot for before or after dinner cocktails!

Visited during the day for coffee. It was very good and so was the almond croissant. Interior of the place is very nice and comforting. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly staff. Parking was across the street. Make sure you don't try to come in or out of that parking lot through Westheimer and it's a curb and not an actually entrance.

Julia knows what drinks suit your taste super well! We had so many yummy drinks and this place is LA approved by my friend who is visiting from California. Amazing place to come chat and make friends. Can’t wait to be back for the holiday menu!
